About US

We are the racing team of the Orange County Wheelmen (OCW), an established, nonprofit club of over 400 recreational cycling members based in Orange County California. Paramount Racing was founded in 1961 and was adopted by OCW in 1992. With over 100 members, Paramount Racing athletes can be seen competing in all racing disciplines throughout California and the United States including Road, Time Trial, Mountain Bike, Velodrome/Track and Cyclo-Cross events. Paramount Racing's membership is open to cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Paramount Racing is a "grass roots", USA Cycling (USAC) licensed racing team with safety, camaraderie and goal oriented training our top priorities. New members should have some racing or pack riding experience and a willingness to learn bicycle racing skills and tactics in a team environment. Those with strong egos may not fit in.

Membership starts at $50 per year and includes OCW membership (Dropped by $20 starting in 2008). Feel free to contact us if you would like more information about our program.

Mission Statement

Paramount Racing is an open enrollment organization welcoming anyone interested in competitive cycling. Paramount Racing offers and encourages members of the team to work together to help each other improve and become stronger, smarter, and more competitive cyclists. The team offers members a supportive framework in which to pursue their racing goals, as well as offering aspiring racers an environment in which to grow and learn about the sport.

Team membership requirements

• Annual dues of $23 for OCW membership is required in addition to Paramount Racing membership
• Annual dues of $46 for Paramount Racing membership
• To qualify for racer support, members must meet additional volunteerism/commitment requirements.

Racer Support

• Paramount Racing provides support, both material and financial to the members of its racing team. Experience, results, commitment, and need are used as the criteria to determine a rider's level of support.
• Our members will be competing in 2006 as Paramount Racing in SCNCA events, as well as other targeted racers outside of this region. We will begin the season as the #7 team in the SoCal Cup rankings. A number of Paramount racers were state champions in 2006. Of course the costs of such a high level of competition can be substantial, so Paramount Racing helps its racers defray some of their expenses through our racer support program. Eligible racers receive not only complimentary or discounted clothing and equipment, but also either pre-paid or reimbursements for their race entry fees. Support for travel and lodging expenses are addressed on a case-by-case basis where applicable. Support is based on not only level of competition and commitment, but also volunteerism at team-sponsored activities and events. Thus the more Paramount members give back to the cycling community, the more help they get pursuing their sporting goals. Thanks to all our sponsors for making it possible!
