Hammer Nutrition
In case we have not stated it obviously or frequently enough, here is our platform, which you can expect us to consistently speak from in this website (hammer website - ed.) and elsewhere:
Daily Diet - Eat whole (organic) foods as much as possible. Avoid packaged, processed foods and junk foods at all times. Do not consume any artificial sweeteners, colors, or flavors, and avoid preservatives as much as possible. The quality of the calories you consume ALWAYS matters.
Sugar Bad - Avoid all "ose" (sucrose, fructose, glucose, etc.) highly processed sugars in your daily diet and especially during exercise. These sugars are not only inefficient fuels, they're health hazards as well.
Protein - It's not just for strength athletes; it's vitally important for endurance athletes as well. Consume 1/2 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight daily as a minimum. Increase to 3/4 gram/pound of bodyweight daily during periods of high volume endurance training and/or when wanting to increase lean muscle mass. When your exercise extends well beyond two hours, soy protein should be included in your fuel.

Orange County Wheelmen
The Orange County Wheelmen (OCW) is the most diverse and oldest bicycle club in
Orange County with over 400 members. Cycling subgroups within OCW include
Paramount Racing, Goat Hill (off-road cycling), and Tandem Time. The club hosts
several annual events, many special activities, and numerous weekly
rides.
OCW was founded in 1970. Beginning as a recreational cycling
club, its focus has expanded to staging cycling events that attract hundreds of
riders, to maintaining an active presence in the community through charitable
donations, and to promoting safety and political advocacy through the club's
training rides and support of the Orange County Bicycle Coalition (OCBC) and the
California Association of Bicycling Organizations (CABO).
Following are
highlights of many of the activities, events, and happenings supported by the
Orange County Wheelmen:
Monthly Happenings
Monthly general
meetings provide a forum for speakers to address bike care, maintenance,
training, speed and nutrition in addition to diet, safety, and travel related
cycling adventures. The meetings are well attended by members and nonmembers
interested in the variety of bike related topics.
OCW's monthly
newsletter, the Chain Reaction, is mailed and/or emailed to all members and can
also be seen on the club's Website. Each issue includes information regarding
the ride schedule, board minutes, and special articles by club members on
cycling tips, activities, travels, and the highlights of our major cycling
events.
Special Events
OCW is well-known for its five (5) major
cycling events held throughout the year including the Spring Metric Century, the
Cinco de Mayo Fiesta 150, the Ride Around the Bear, the Amtrak Century and the
Fall Metric Century. Each event is unique and attracts hundreds of riders
throughout California and from the Western United States.
Special
Activities
OCW is also involved in a variety of activities beyond riding
the roads. Each August members attend the Annual Picnic which culminates in a
fiercely contested tricycle race. In February the club's Annual Awards Banquet
honors and celebrates accomplishments by individual members and introduces the
new board members for the coming year.
OCW's ongoing charitable donations
benefit many children in Orange County. The club donates bicycles and helmets
in addition to members donating numerous toys and gifts to children of Orange
County. Our club is also activity involved with the Orange County Bicycle
Coalition (OCBC) and the California Association of Bicycling Organizations
(CABO).
We look forward to you joining us for a bike ride!

Trek Bicycles
Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team rider Levi Leipheimer kicked-off the 2007 season by storming to victory in Sunday’s Amgen Tour of California Prologue. Despite shifting wind conditions that favored early riders and punished late-starters, Leipheimer—the last man out of the start-house—demonstrated his superb early-season fitness by piloting his Equinox TTX to the fastest time of the day, 4:49.50 over the 3.1 km circuit.

Vittoria Tires
The world of cycling is constantly and rapidly changing.
The number of
cycling enthusiasts is growing in all areas: competition, amateur cycling and
practical, ecological daily mobility.
After 50 years of activity (1953 –
2003), Vittoria is combining the best Italian creativity with the tremendous
technological potential of Lion Tyres to evolve still further as the driving
force behind change in the cycling world.
Vittoria puts a tremendous
amount of effort into maintaining its position as the world’s uncontested top
name in tubulars and tyres, and is constantly developing cutting edge
technologies and innovative new products.
Vittoria gained its reputation
the hard way - at the very highest levels of competitive cycling. Champions like
Moser, Hinault, Indurain, Ullrich, Pantani, Cipollini and many others have all
raced and won on Vittoria tyres, and have continued to work with us in product
development.
This invaluable shared experience has lead to the creation
of tyres and tubulars capable of satisfying even the most demanding and expert
users.
Since 2002, Vittoria has been technical sponsor of WCC, (World
Cycling Centre), based in U.C.I. headquarter in Aigle (CH), where young athletes
coming from all over the world train for the different cycling disciplines. This
co-operation allows Vittoria to contribute to the development of cycling and, at
the same time, to have prototypes of newly developed tyres tested by promising
young racers.
